Authentic English | Post-Examination Fun with Sticky Gooey Oobleck!
I am so glad that the examinations are over and that the holidays are finally around the corner. I am sure you feel the same way too! Since the holiday bug has bitten all of us, today’s post will be a lot less serious and a little bit more fun.
Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss
For those of you who are familiar with Dr Seuss’ books, you would have probably heard of a tale entitled ‘Bartholomew and the Oobleck’. It tells the story of King Derwin of Didd who summoned his royal magicians to create something new and exciting to fall from the sky. However, what he got were sticky green globs called oobleck, and they created such a mess everywhere! It was only with the help of his pageboy, Bartholomew Cubbins, that the king managed to restore order to his kingdom.
If you are interested to read the story, you can pick up this great read from the Book Depository now!
Our very own ooblek stress balls
Inspired by the book, Mrs Chew and I decided to make our very own oobleck stress balls with the Primary 5 students as part of our post-examination activity. These stress balls are really simple and fun to make. Check out the video below:
Easy, right? All you need are corn flour, water, an empty plastic water bottle and some balloons. You need a small bowl and a measuring cup (it is easier to pour the mixture from the measuring cup into the plastic water bottle than from the bowl).
The only thing to remember is that it can get rather messy so avoid wearing your new clothes when you do this! Also, you might want to line the table with a plastic sheet so as to make it easier for you to clean up. The good thing about making oobleck is that any mess you make can be wiped away with just cloth and water.
The students had an enjoyable time creating their own oobleck stress balls. I hope you will try it out and have lots of fun too! If you do try it out, leave a comment below and let me know how it goes.
That’s all for today’s post. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to recharge and relax during this end-of-year break. Spend time catching up with your family and do the things you love. Take care and I’ll see you soon!
